Balancing capacity
EGI supported a transmission system operator in advancing the transition towards a low-carbon power system by strengthening system flexibility and enabling higher integration of renewable energy. The project focused on strategic planning, technical integration, and capacity building, aligned with national energy transition priorities. EGI supported the establishment of a dedicated renewable energy services function to coordinate and manage renewable integration activities, ensuring effective collaboration across internal departments and stakeholders.
In parallel, EGI oversaw the procurement and implementation of advanced renewable energy forecasting tools to improve prediction accuracy and optimise grid operations. The assignment also included a technical assessment of balancing capacity requirements under future scenarios with high shares of variable renewables, benchmarked against international best practices, and the development of recommendations to address variability through appropriate reserve strategies and enabling technologies.
