We are appointed as Endorsed Assessor by the Institute of Asset Management

We are a certified assessor

We’re proud to announce that Elia Grid International (EGI) has been recognised as an Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Endorsed Assessor effective 1 August 2026.

This endorsement reflects our proven expertise in assessing organisations against ISO 55001 and leading asset management frameworks, including the IAM Anatomy and the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape.

The Institute of Asset Management

The IAM is an international professional body for asset management professionals. Founded in 1994 and based in the United Kingdom, it is a not-for-profit organization run by its members.

In 2004, the IAM and the British Standards Institution developed PAS 55, the first publicly available specification for optimized physical asset management. They subsequently worked with 50 organizations across 15 industry sectors and 10 countries to revise PAS 55 in 2008. Building on PAS 55, ISO established a unified global framework and published the first editions of ISO 55000, ISO 55001 and ISO 55002 in 2014.

The ISO 55000 family broadened the focus from physical assets to a holistic framework for realizing value from all types of organizational assets. Revised in July 2024, the standards were restructured to address modern operating environments. These standards help organizations maximize value from their asset management activities while reducing operational risks and costs. In turn, this supports stronger organizational performance and greater stakeholder satisfaction.

The IAM Endorsed Assessor Scheme

The IAM established the Endorsed Assessor Scheme to give organizations confidence in the competence and capability of providers delivering asset management assessment services. The scheme confirms that an endorsed organization is genuinely qualified to assess asset management systems, whether through gap analyses or maturity assessments. These assessments are often the first step towards ISO 55001 certification by an official certification body, because they show organizations where they stand and what they need to address before a formal certification audit. Asset owners can therefore select an assessment partner on the basis of an objective, independently verified benchmark.

To grant endorsement, the IAM evaluates each named assessor’s qualifications and experience against its Competency Framework and reviews the assessment process against ISO/IEC 17021-1 and ISO 19011. Endorsed Assessors report to the IAM annually, and endorsement may be withdrawn if its standards are not maintained.

Relevance for asset owners

Asset-intensive organizations are under increasing pressure to make well-founded investment decisions, optimize asset performance, manage risk and demonstrate value across the full asset lifecycle. For grid operators, utilities and infrastructure owners, this challenge is intensified by asset bases that are simultaneously aging and expanding. Expenditure must be justified to boards, lenders and other stakeholders, with clear evidence that it strengthens reliability, safety and long-term value.

A structured readiness review, gap analysis or maturity assessment establishes a robust baseline before an organization pursues certification, plans the next steps in developing its asset management system or launches targeted initiatives. EGI’s endorsement provides assurance that these assessments are conducted by qualified assessors against a recognized framework.

As part of Elia Group, EGI combines a transmission system operator’s background with a track record of advising clients worldwide. This enables EGI to translate assessment findings into practical, prioritized implementation roadmaps that deliver measurable improvements in asset management performance.
